Young children with expressive language delays have difficulty with word imitation and requesting their wants/needs. There is limited knowledge on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) use amongst practitioners, misconceptions from parents on AAC and sign language, and a small body of research on the topic. This investigation examined the use of a multimodal approaching including AAC components with an emphasis on sign language on increasing word imitations in children with expressive language delays.
