Falls are the second leading cause of death among the elderly. Falls are three times more likely to occur in long-term care facilities than in the community. The Fall Assessment Safety Training (FAST) program was an evidence-based, occupational therapist-led fall prevention program for nursing assistants. The research questions were: 1) Does patient handling and risk assessment training increase knowledge of fall risks among nursing assistant staff? 2) Does patient handling and risk assessment training increase patient transfer skills and confidence in nursing assistant staff? 3) Does patient handling and risk assessment training reduce resident falls in long-term care?
