There is limited research analyzing the effects of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) modeling on nonaugmented modalities of intentional communication, especially in children older than preschool age. This investigation aimed to determine whether AAC modeling by adult communication partners in natural environments affected the frequency of spontaneous, intentional communication in any mode among minimally verbal and nonverbal early school-age students aged 5 years 0 months to 7 years 11 months.
