Daily routines are the bedrock of families’ daily life, providing predictable structure for activities to meet basic needs and nurture healthy behavior. These routines are an avenue early interventionists utilize to coach parents in developmental strategies and healthy lifestyles for their children with developmental needs. This capstone project will train providers in using Routine Mapping, the Canadian Occupational Perfomance Measure, and the Goal Attainment Scale as tools to engage parents on structuring family routines for positive child outcomes. Benefits of routines will be highlighted, with outcomes including increased social-emotional, self-regulation and adaptive skill development. This project utilizes the SCOPE-IT frame of reference, emphasizing the good fit of child-environment-occupation and parent coaching within the home routines. Recent evidence on sleep and mealtime routines will be emphasized, along with ways of establishing a sensory lifestyle within daily activities.
