Executive functioning (EF) refers to the cognitive processes that support planning, organization, self-regulation, and goal-directed behavior. Executive functioning challenges frequently interfere with adolescents’ participation in school-based occupations. However, occupational therapy (OT) practitioners working with these students report limited preparation and confidence in implementing evidence-informed coaching approaches to address these difficulties. The purpose of this capstone project was to develop, implement, and evaluate a three-hour professional development workshop designed to increase school-based OT practitioners’ knowledge and confidence in applying coaching strategies to support executive functioning in adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
