The issue of falls among older adults is anticipated to escalate as the population ages. This capstone project involves development of a fall prevention website called the “Fall Proof.” Utilizing a web-based fall prevention resource for community-dwelling older adults and their care providers is proposed to aid in reducing fall risk, decreasing fear of falling, enhancing safety, and improving overall quality of life. This website will act as an easily accessible, readily available, and cost-effective educational resource for the target population. The Fall Proof Website will align with the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Centennial Vision by addressing the occupational needs of a key population and employing an evidence-based approach. An online resource can offer practical solutions to address the issue of falls by educating the target population about the factors that can act as facilitators or barriers for their safety. Research suggests that confronting the complex issue of falls with a multifactorial approach can reduce fall risk. Reduction in fall risk and decreased fear or falling can restore optimal activity level and thereby promote engagement in personally meaningful activities. This program has the potential to utilize evidence-based approaches in an effort to improve health, wellness, and safety of the target population.
