Dyslexia, a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties with reading fluency and accuracy, is the most common learning disability. This prevalence underscores the importance of an early diagnosis and treatment, yet children with dyslexia often receive a late diagnosis after falling behind academically. Parents report limited access to resources and treatment options, and teachers express the need for further education about dyslexia. Occupational therapists have the educational and clinical expertise to address dyslexia and related problems using a client-centered therapeutic approach. An evidence-based occupational therapy business plan was created to address the needs of children with dyslexia using four core objectives. First, the plan includes client-centered intervention plans, a science-based reading program, multisensory treatment techniques, and consultation on relevant adaptations and environmental modifications. Second, the business plan is based on an evidence-based practice approach, focusing on recent scientific research, occupational therapy practitioner expertise, and child/family values. Third, education and collaboration with parents and teachers are essential to this business plan. Finally, the plan promotes better dyslexia treatment through community advocacy efforts. The business plan is thorough and incorporates an executive summary, business overview, description of services, market analysis, organization and management plan, marketing strategies, and financial structure. This unique, comprehensive business plan has the potential to help students with dyslexia improve overall reading abilities and achieve meaningful levels of occupational performance and well-being.
