Evidence Based Practice Problem: The problem generated for the scope of this investigation sought to answer the following question “What is the level of perceived benefits of Electronis Health Records (EHR’s) among clinic providers and staff before and after an EHR learning intervention? Purpose and Scope: The purpose of this capstone project was to describe changes in the perceptions of the benefits of electronic health records in primary care in a selected healthcare organization before and after an EHR learning intervention. Goal: The goal of this capstone project was to successfully implement an Electronic Health Records teaching intervention for the employees and health care providers of a selected health care facility that would change the perceptions of the benefits of Electronic Health records in family practice. Objectives: To construct an educational session that would assess perceptions of electronic health records before the session, provide rational for changing those perceptions and evaluate any changes by means of a post test. Plan: Phase One: perform a needs assessment based on literature. Obtain an evaluation tool based on perceptions. Phase Two: develop an educational intervention using an Evidence Based Approach. Phase Three: Implement the Evidence Based Electronic Health Records intervention for a projected sample (N-30) using Benners Novice to Expert theory as a foundation. Phase Four: Collect and analyze data from the pre and post educational intervention, evaluate changes in perceptions of the benefit of EHR’s. Outcomes and Results: Using a descriptive-interventional research design, results of the pre-intervention and post-intervention measures revealed a modest mean score increase in family presence self-awareness in the clinical department head administrators. Moreover, scaled reliability estimates based on internal consistency for the pre-intervention testing achieved significance, while the post-intervention testing also achieved significance with regard to the tool’s performance in this interventional design.
