Childhood obesity is a serious public health issue that has a consequential bearing on general health, development, well-being, and acute and chronic diseases. Obesity in childhood is a worldwide, national, and local problem that has reached epidemic scale in the past four decades. Overweight and obese children of military and service members receiving care on the Ft. Carson Military Treatment Facility in Colorado are not being consistently identified, diagnosed, and managed with regular family-centered, behavior-focused counseling and follow-up. This quality improvement project aims to assess the effectiveness of an educational intervention designed to assist pediatric providers at a military treatment facility (MTF) in Colorado in managing childhood obesity.
